A Fundação da Juventude é a entidade acreditada pela Comissão Europeia para receber os jovens cientistas portugueses para participar na 22ª Final Europeia do Concurso Europeu para Jovens Cientistas.
Em 1998 a Fundação da Juventude organizou, no Porto, a Final Europeia do 10º Concurso Europeu para Jovens Cientistas que, segundo fontes daquele organismo, «decorreu com grande sucesso». Desde então, a Final passou por grandes cidades europeias - Amesterdão, Moscovo, Estocolmo, Copenhaga, entre outras, tendo sido acolhida na Cidade das Luzes - Paris no passado mês de Setembro.
«Em Setembro de 2010, pretendemos repetir o sucesso de 1998, contando receber em Lisboa, mais de 90 projectos realizados por mais de 200 jovens oriundos de toda a Europa», salienta a Directora-Geral da Fundação da Juventude, contando também com convidados de outros continentes, nomeadamente países asiáticos como o Japão, a China ou a Coreia do Sul, os norte-americanos Canadá e EUA, e os nossos antípodas neozelandeses.
A Final vai ter lugar no Museu da Electricidade, em Lisboa, de 24 a 29 de Setembro, tendo já a Fundação da Juventude assegurado a parceria da Fundação EDP para este evento, para além da própria Comissão Europeia, através da Direcção-Geral de Investigação.
Apesar de, por motivos de agenda, não ter podido estar presente na Cerimónia de Encerramento do EUCYS 2010, José Manuel Barroso, Presidente da Comissão Europeia, deixou uma mensagem aos jovens cientistas.

The students have come away beaming with pride, and even though some did not win a prize they had a great experience and have made long term friends with the other students they met. I know I said thank you to you all before we left, but I think it is important that it is said in writing. Thank you so much for all your help and support during the last six days and throughout the last few months as well. You were so helpful and friendly at all times are were always able to answer questions when asked and sorted everything with a smile on your faces.
You are probably exhausted but I would say you are probably all disappointed that it is over at the same time, as you have put so much work in.
Well done to you all again your country should be proud of such ambassadors like you.
